However strong the sense of loyalty and mutual obligation between the members of a morung may have been, it did not attain the degree of identification and joint responsibility prevailing among those belonging to the same clan. In the language of Wakching a clan is called 'li,' but in certain contexts, and especially in the clan names, the syllables 'hu' and 'phong' attached to the name of the ancestor also mean "clan." |
