text: The differences in the political systems of the various the Konyak tribe did not affect all aspects of social behavior to the same degree, and it is possible, therefore, to discuss such subjects as the education of children, the conduct of the unmarried, and the relations of spouses without distinguishing in every case between customs peculiar to specific localities or groups of villages. The following pages contain a general account of the progress of Konyaks from conception through childhood, adolescence and maturity to death, and the passage into the land of the dead. Though examples are taken from various villages, the greater part of the description reflects life in Wakching as I observed it in 1936 -- 1937.
