Chapter Three. Phases of Life |

children free to wander in village; play |
text: |
Soon a small boy or girl would learn to move about the village, and though children were not characterized by particular docility, they knew very well how far they could go without running into trouble; it was most unusual for a child to stray into the jungle surrounding the village. Usually, children respected the limits of their own village ward, and this had the result that their companions at play belonged almost exclusively to the same morung. |
