The picture of Konyak marriage so far drawn is still incomplete. Apart from the sentimental attachment between husband and wife in a happy marriage, and the cooperation between spouses living under one roof, there were also obligations involving the kinsmen of both partners. We have seen that at the time of the wedding rites there was an exchange of gifts between the families of groom and bride. This exchange of gifts, additional to the payment of the bride price, inaugurated a series of reciprocal services and presentations which extended over the whole span of married life. |
