text: | In some Thendu villages naturalistically carved figures, carrying replicas of weapons and wearing the headdress and ornaments appropriate to chiefs, were placed in front of the funeral platform. These funerary figures were always set up in pairs, one figure representing the chief and the other an attendant. |
