text: The ruins of Dimapur lie quite near the railway station of Manipur Road, and from there Mills and I took a train to Simaluguri, about 200 miles away. The railway runs in a north-easterly direction along the foothills of the Naga country, and from Simaluguri it is two days' march to the land of the Konyaks, where I planned to start work. We could have reached it without leaving the hills by taking the direct bridle-path from Kohima, but such a trek would have taken at least twelve days.
