Chapter Six. Death in the Rain |

learning from two Naga boys |

To the two boys the friendship with the "new Sahib" was the greatest fun. They thought themselves immensely important, explaining all the things in the village and teaching me the Konyak expression for this and for that. They came to my bungalow whenever they managed to sneak away from the work in the fields, and they would go with me on my daily walks through the village, until finally their interest faded and the "new Sahib" was not "new" any more, but a usual figure in the village. Before this happened, however, I had picked up a great deal from Ngamang and Dzeamang. |
