text: Chingmei, the last Chang bulwark against the Kalyo Kengyus, was a large, strongly fortified village, encircled by a double stockade set with sharp bamboo spikes. Sentry-boxes high up in the trees dominated the narrow entrances and the doors bristling with spikes.
