In the household of a polygamous great Ang there was usually one wife of commoner status who cooked for the chief and his wife or wives of aristocratic status. This woman not only served her husband and his consorts as cook but acted also as caretaker in the sense that she was in charge of the store of provisions and distributed grain to all the other wives of the chief. |
