text: (235) The Ang of Mon, whom I visited when the genna caused by the birth of his son had come to an end, can trace his ancestors through eight generations, and for the past six generations even the natal villages of the principal wives of the various chiefs are known. The Ang has still great prestige, but his power has diminished and he seems to have little to do. Some years ago his house was destroyed by fire and hence there are few trophies of any sort. But in front of the Ang's house I noticed a large mound of stones put up on the occasion of head-hunting rites. One of these stones bears a tally of engraved lines, each representing one head. I was told that it has been set up by one particular man who had captured twenty heads.
