text: The Ukhrul trip had been short and over bridle-roads. This was to last three weeks, we should be lodged in jungle-camps, and much of the route was over native paths. It wasn't usual then for women to tour in the hills. There were protests; our plan was criticized.
text: " You'll never stand the marching," said a captain, with gloom. " You'll go sick on the Barak and be carried in, and then you'll know all about it."
