text: At the end of July we returned to Haflong and found out what had been happening in the Zemi country. The storm-centre had been in Naga Hills, a day or so beyond the North Cachar border. A woman lunatic had established herself there, and by all accounts used to utter prophecies while lying in the village water-trough. One would have thought this a peculiarly damp and unconvincing pulpit; but the Zemi faithful apparently found it valid, and there had been quite a stir. She had been arrested and removed by the Deputy Commissioner from Kohima; the village headmen of Ngaulong, where she had been, were in trouble for allowing it all; and peace had been restored.
