text: The war was on us. There was one thing I didn't intend to do, despite the general confusion, and that was to leave Assam - whether there was a general evacuation or not. Returning to Laisong, I recruited, not without difficulty, a team of Zemi volunteers, and offered our services to the Government on any of the refugee routes where we could be of use.
