text: 1. The British occupation in 1879 effectively ended Angami raiding. During earlier operations in the Angami country a strong band of raiders slipped out from the then besieged Khonoma, raided Baladhan tea-estate in Cachar District, 150 miles distant by the shortest route, and returned undetected through the British lines to Khonoma with the heads they had taken.
