33. A central Nzemi's hair is normally brushed down all round from the crown; it is cut to frame the face, and at the back it reaches the nape of the neck. It resembles some European styles of the 15th century. When uncut, the forehead hair falls over the eyes and is restrained by a bamboo fillet. Where this dishevelled mourning style is inadmissable, as, for example, for a Government interpreter, his brother, classificatory brother or other near kinsman may assume formal mourning in his stead. |
