George Taylor’s Road Book

Captain George Taylor’s ‘Sketches of the roads in Scotland: with notes historical, descriptive &ca’, MS Add. 7712, is displayed in the cases titled ‘Aiding the traveller’. Taylor, an officer in the Duke of Cumberland’s regiment of foot, dated his manuscript road book 1785, and may have produced it as a gift to a member of the Campbell clan, possibly the fifth Duke of Argyll.
