Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge
The Centre's photographic archive contains in the region of 100,000 images ranging
from official portraits to family snapshots. A web-accessible database currently holds
details of about 30,000 photographs. Select Overview of Collections to learn the scale and scope of each collection.
- The Centre of South Asian Studies' online film archive contains
about 80 hours of footage from 16 mm and 8 mm home movies, taken between 1911 and 1956. Together they give a unique perspective of life in South Asia towards the end of the British Empire and in the first years of independence.
- Henry Martyn Centre for Mission Studies, Westminster College, Cambridge holds some 2,000 photographs dating from the late 19th century chiefly covering Egypt, Sub-Saharan Africa and India. Images cover not only the work of missionaries in fields such as preaching, conversion, education and medicine, but also illustrate the lands and the people of the nations in which they served, providing a valuable research tool for many academic disciplines. Some have been digitised and are available on their archive webpages.

The Museum's historical archive of over 100,000 photographic prints, albums,
negatives, lantern slides, transparencies and moving films includes images from all over the
world, most of which were made and collected between the 1860s and the 1950s.
