also the homage find that on 14.3.1738 Jn Lay gentleman and Mary his wife surrendered by the hands of Solomon Grimston gentleman deputy steward she the said Mary first solely examined etc all those eight crofts or parcels of land called Moor Lands containing 40a together with a messuage barn and stable thereupon built with the appurtenances situate in Earls Colne to the use of Mary Lay for life and after her decease to the use of Jn Lay for life the remainder to the use of Wm Lay their youngest son and his heirs forever and because none came therefore proclamation made etc and first default recorded
