whereas at a court held 4.5.1739 found that before that court on 14.3.1739 Jn Lay gentleman and Mary his wife surrendered by the hands of the deputy steward the said Mary solely examined and consenting all those eight crofts or parcels of land called Moorlands containing 40a with a messuage barn and stable thereupon built with appurtenances in Earls Colne in the tenure of the said Jn Lay or his assigns to the use of the said Mary for life and after her death to the said Jn for life remainder to the use of Wm Lay their youngest son and his heirs forever whereupon first proclamation was made and whereas at a court held 22.4.last the said Mary Lay was admitted to the premises for life now at this court came the said Jn Lay and Wm his son and were admitted the said Jn for life immediately after the death of the said Mary and after the death of the survivor to the use of the said Wm and his heirs forever and they gave their fines etc
