it is shown by the homage that Thos Beryffe who held for himself and his heirs from the lord as of this manor by the rod etc two crofts of land with appurtenances containing 4a lying in Mattyshall late parcel of the lord's land and of other lord's of this manor as by the metes and bounds etc the said Thos died after the last court thus solely seised of and in the said crofts of land with appurtenances in his demesne as of fee according to the custom of the manor etc and they say further that Thos Beryff aged 17yrs and more is son of the said Thos and next heir thereof and should inherit the premises who present in court came and sought admittance thereof and upon this to this court came Kath late wife of Thos deceased and sought admittance to a third part of the said two crofts of land with appurtenances in the name of her dower lands during the whole term of her life because the aforesaid Thos late her husband was seised of and in the said two crofts of land during the marriage made and solemnised between them and furthermore because the homage having made a search of the court roll which clearly shows that her petition was legitimate and honest and that the custom of this manor was not contravened therefore she was admitted tenant of the lord thereof to the third part of the said two crofts with appurtenances to whom by the steward the lord delivered thereof seisin to hold for herself and her assigns during the whole term of her life and she gave to the lord her fine for the said third part as is shown in the margin
fine 14d and made fealty to the lord and the remainder thereof after her decease to the aforesaid Thos Beryff as her heir and similarly the aforesaid Thos Beryff was admitted thereof tenant of the lord to the two parts of the said two crofts with appurtenances to hold for himself and his assigns from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor etc and he gave to the lord his fine for the said two parts of the said two crofts with appurtenances as is shown in the margin and made fealty to the lord
