29: A dark day in respect of our intelligence. matters went ill in the west, our forces compelled to retreat and somewhat worse was feared by Waller and Holborne . in the Northwest the enemy preserved and relieved their distressed garrisons and by report fell down towards us: thus we see it is not in man but in the Lord only to do us good oh that we could trust and depend upon him only. etc.
