8: This morning was snowy, windy and cold, which made me keep in, at night my wife in kindness came and lay in my bed. heard of more persons dying at Gaines Colne and Halsted. I was never so bare of money, and in my illness I had use for more than was ordinary, and yet I thank the god of heaven my mind was quiet and content, and some lent, and other paid me in money beforehand so as I thank god I wanted nothing all this time;
