July. 30. This week the lord was very good to me, in many outward mercies, divers days very hot, harvest entering apace on us, divers good friends with us, my heart in better frame as to vain annoyances, but sufficiently dead and shut up, and prone to be mindless and regardless of god: the lord good to me in the word speaking, but I do not find it returning back into my heart, with that life and power I desire, to disengage my heart from every way of vanity, and to engage my heart to serve god with more inward freedom from vanity of spirit; July ended with thunder and showers, and harvests beginning(.)
