whereas at a court held for the said manor 16.2.1648 it was presented by the homage that Sam Game the elder did since the then last court surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Jn Holden in place of the bailiff and in the presence of Edw Browne and Wm Adams two customary tenants of the said manor one messuage with a yard orchard and garden to the same belonging and two parcels of land and a little grove customary called Bettesland or otherwise abutting upon certain lands called Procknutts in part towards the south and the land of Edw Browne in part towards the west and north and upon Bettensland Wood in part and upon a dool or pathway leading from the said messuage towards the church of Earls Colne in part on the east to the use of him the said Sam Game and his assigns for the term of his natural life and after his decease to the use of Grace Game his daughter and of the heirs and assigns of the said Grace but the admission of the said Sam and Grace was then respited now at this court the said Sam Game and the said Grace now the wife of Sam Bush did come and humbly prayed to be admitted tenants to the said messuage lands and premises with their appurtenances to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage lands and premises with their appurtenances to the said Sam Game for and during the term of his natural life and after his decease to the said Grace her heirs and assigns of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs due and of right accustomed and they gave to the lord for a fine
