whereas at a court specially held for the said manor 3.6.1656 Mary the wife of Jn Morley gentleman Eliz Nevill Grisil the wife of Hen Weales gentleman Bridget Nevill and Margt the wife of Math Butcher the younger gentleman sisters and coheirs of Rich Nevill gentleman deceased were admitted tenants to them and their heirs in coparcenary to certain customary lands and tenements called Hobstevens containing by estimation 23a and whereas at the same court the said Hen Weales and Grisil his wife the said Grisil being by the said steward solely and secretly examined and consenting did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of his steward all their fifth part of the said lands and all their and either of their purparty part and estate in the said lands and tenements to the use of the said Math Butcher his heirs and assigns and the said Math was then admitted tenant to the same accordingly now at this court it was presented by the homage upon the testimony of the said Jn Joscelyne steward of the said manor that since the last court that is to say upon 14.7.1656 aforesaid the said Math Butcher did come before the said steward and did by the rod surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of his said steward according to the custom of the said manor all that his fifth part of the said lands and tenements which he had as aforesaid by the surrender of the said Hen Weales and Grisil his wife with the appurtenances to the use and behoof of Ralph Josselin of Earls Colne clerk and of his heirs and assigns forever and it was further presented by the homage upon the testimony of the said steward that the said Math Butcher and Margt his wife did upon the said 14.7.1656 aforesaid come before the said steward and the said Margt being by the said steward solely and secretly examined and consenting they the said Math and Margt did by the rod surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of his said steward all that their fifth part of the said lands and tenements which the said Margt tenant to her and her heirs as one of the sisters and coheirs of the said Rich Nevill as aforesaid with the appurtenances and all the purparty part and estate of the said Margt to the premises to the use and behoof of the said Ralph Josselin and of his heirs and assigns forever and thereupon the said Ralph Josselin being present in court desired to be admitted tenant to the said two fifth parts of the said lands and tenements to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said two fifth parts of the said lands and tenements with the appurtenances to the said Ralph Josselin his heirs and assigns forever of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services due and of right accustomed and he gave to the lord for his fine and did his fealty
