at a court held 27.12.1676 Wm Stebbing gentleman was admitted to one barn one stable and parcel of a customary curtilage plus appurtenances now converted into a cottage in the separate occupations of Wm Paretree and Jn Everitt or assigns lying in Earls Colne and at the same court the said Wm Stebbing surrendered the said premises and appurtenances to his last will now at this court it is shown by the homage that the said Wm Stebbing died before this court and Solomon Stebbing one of the sons of the said Wm showed the last will of the said Wm to this court dated 17.6.1679 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words item I give and bequeath unto the said Solomon and his heirs all that messuage or tenement with appurtenances in Earls Colne now or late in the tenure or occupation of Wm Peartree and Rich Hatch after which the said Solomon Stebbing is present in court and seeks admittance etc and pays his fine but fealty respited
