Earls Colne inquisition homage whereas at a court here held on the friday in the contemplation of the lord's cross 6.5.16Edw2 above said Wm Sowte showed by a certain deed of Hugh de Veer ancestor of the now earl the form for the ancestor of the said Wm concerning one messuage and 5a of land it was testified that the same said Wm as scutage to the lord king with the issues of the said lands and tenements was more or less amerced at a scutage of 40s the said scutage of 2marks(inserted) therefore the said Wm granted payment of the said scutage etc viz 3d1h(inserted) item the said Wm showed a certain deed of Robt de Veer ancestor of the now earl made for the same said ancestor of the said Wm concerning one messuage with a certain aldergrove adjoining and 5a of land and 1r which was sometime of Jeff Atte Brook which it was testified that the said tenant owed scutage at 40s1d more or less etc item it was granted to Rich Squyer the lord's warrener to have and to hold to himself and his heirs 3a of land thus proportioned by the metes and bounds thus lying next to a field of Sandehell in a certain place called Fochehole below a wood called Schyffens by the services of 12d per annum rent etc
