james by the grace of god etc to all to whom these present letters may come greeting know that amongst the folded letters enrolled at Westminster before Edm Anderson knight and his fellow judges in chancery in easter term 1603 roll forty two continues thus Essex Francis Huberd esq and Jn Wilsha gentleman in their proper persons petition against Rich Harlakenden esq the manor of Colne alias Colne Priory in Colne Comitis alias Earls Colne with appurtenances and twenty messuages twenty tofts two mills two dovecotes twenty gardens 40a arable land 120a meadow 300a pasture 300a woodland 100a moorland and 80s rent with appurtenances in Earls Colne alias Colne Comitis Aldenham Lavenham Sible Hedingham Mapelstede Magna Maplestede Parva Bures ad Montem alias Mount Bures Halstede Colne Engayne White Colne Colne Wake Tayne Magna besides the rectory of Earls Colne alias Colne Comitis with appurtenances and also all and every the tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions as it were at any time arising the nomination or renomination in Colne Engaine Colne Comitis alias Earls Colne Tayne Magna alias Much Tayne Aldham Halstede Sibble Henningham Maplested Magna Bures ad Montem alias Mount Bures as their right and inheritance and in which the same Rich has not right of entry after the disseisin which Hugo Hunt then unjustly and without judgement made to the aforesaid Francis and Jn within thirty years etc and since that time have been seised of the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances in their demesne as of fee and by right in time of peace in time of the lord king now taking there completely to the value etc and in which etc and then seised etc and the aforesaid Rich in his proper person comes and defends his right when etc and called there to warranty Rich Humfrey who is present in this court in his proper person and freely warrants the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with their appurtenances and upon this the aforesaid Francis and Jn demand against him Rich Humfrey tenant by warranty the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances in form aforesaid etc and since that time they have been seised of the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances in their demesne as of fee and by right in time of peace of the the lord the now king taking there to the value etc and in which etc and then seised etc and the aforesaid Rich Humfrey tenant by warranty defended his right when etc and said that the aforesaid Hugo Hunt did not disseise the aforesaid Francis and Jn of the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances as Francis and Jn by their letters and statement aforesaid above suppose and of this he puts himself etc and the said Francis and Jn pray licence then to imparl and have it etc and after Francis and Jn return in court in the same term in their proper persons and the aforesaid Rich Humfrey despite solemnly charged does not return departs in contempt of court therefore default made and it is considered that the aforesaid Francis and Jn do recover their seisin against the aforesaid Rich Harlakenden of the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances and that Rich have of the lands of the aforesaid Rich Humfrey to the value etc and Rich in mercy etc and upon this the aforesaid Francis and Jn pray letters of the lord king with power in the county aforesaid empowered to enfeoff making to them full seisin of the manor tenements rents rectories tithes portions pensions oblations and obventions aforesaid with appurtenances and it is granted returnable in the octave of holy trinity etc with all and singular with regard to the request of the aforesaid Francis and Jn by the tenor of these presents drawn in an exemplification in witness whereof to these present letters in chancery do set the seal E Anderson at Westminster 6.6.1Jas1
