in the name of god amen the 24.4.1610 etc. I Jn Cockerell of Halsted in the diocese of London and in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to almighty god do make and ordain this my present testament declaring therein my last will in manner and form following that is to say first and principally I commend my soul to almighty god my creator and to jesus christ my only saviour and redeemer with a steadfast hope to be saved by his merit death and passion and by no other means whatsoever and my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named item I give and bequeath unto Bridgett my wife the sum of 50li of lawful english money to be paid unto her in manner and form following that is to say 20li within three months next after my decease and the other 30li within six months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto the said Bridgett my wife half my household stuff being indifferently parted to be delivered unto her within three months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto the said Bridgett my wife one annuity or yearly rent of 5li of lawful english money to be paid unto her half yearly out of my lands tenements and hereditaments situate lying and being in the parish of Feeringe in the said county of Essex that is to say at the feast of michaelmas and the annunciation by even portions the first payment thereof to begin and be paid unto her or her assigns at that feast of the feasts aforesaid which first shall happen Jn Cockerell to come and be next after my decease and so to continue and be paid unto her or her assigns for and during the term of her natural life upon condition that the said Bridgett my wife shall not nor will not have nor claim to have any title of dower and thirds of and in all or any my lands tenements or hereditaments whatsoever item I give and bequeath unto the said Bridgett my wife every year during her natural life two loads of wood to be taken out of my lands lying in Feeringe Coggeshall or in Earls Colne in the said county of Essex at her choice item I give and bequeath unto Geo Cockerell my brother's son all and singular my lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever situate lying and being in Feeringe Coggeshall and Earls Colne aforesaid to have and to hold the same with their appurtenances unto the said Geo Cockerell and to his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto Jn Cockerell my godson being son of the said Geo the sum of 20li of lawful english money to be paid unto him at his age of one and twenty years and all the rest of my goods chattels household stuff and implements of household whatsoever not before given and bequeathed in and by this my last will and testament I give and them to the said Geo Cockerell item I give and bequeath unto my cousin Joan Clarke widow 20s of lawful english money to be paid unto her within six weeks next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Dorcas Clarke her daughter 20s of lawful english money to be paid unto her within six weeks next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Great Coggeshall the sum of 40s to be given and distributed to and amongst them at the discretion of my executor within one month next after my decease and I do make and ordain the said Geo Cockerell my soul executor of this Jn Cockerell my last will and testament revoking and hereby making void any (torn) gifts and bequests by me heretofore made in witness whereof I the said Jn Cockerell have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Jn Cockerell Robt Inoe
