in the name of god amen the 18.8.1611 I Wm Smith of White Colne in the county of Essex sngl calling to mind the certainty of death the end of any living creature and the uncertainty of the hour thereof and therefore having special care now whiles my senses do perfectly serve me I thank god therefore to dispose those goods whereof almighty god of his merciful goodness hath lent me the use in this transitory life do declare and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following first and principally I surrender and bequeath my soul to almighty god by whose precious bloodshedding upon the cross I do firmly hope to receive remission of all my sins item I do give to every of the children of my sister Frances 40s apiece of lawful english money to be paid to every of them as they shall severally attain to the age of twenty years and if any of them shall die before that time then my meaning is that the part of any of them so dying shall be equally divided amongst the rest of them living item I do give unto my said sister Frances 40s to be paid by 10s a year the first payment thereof to begin within one month after my decease all the rest and residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever I do wholly give and bequeath to Jn Byrde my brother in law whom I do ordain and make my sole executor to see my body honestly and decently brought to the earth and to see my debts and my said legacies paid and discharged according to the true intent and meaning of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year first above written in the presence of the parties whose names are hereunder written Symon Ive Robt Ive mark Edw Peartree mark Wm Smith
