in the name of god amen the 6.4.1687 etc. I Jn Rossbrooke of Earls Colne in the county of Essex being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to god for the same and calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is is (sic) appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following viz first and principally I give my soul into the hands of god who gave it me and for my body I commend it to the earth to be buried in christian and decent manner according to the discretion of my executor hereafter named not doubting but and the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of god and as touching such worldly estate as god hath pleased to bless me with in this life I dispose in manner and form following item I give and bequeath unto Simon Rossbrooke my only son all that my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell together with the lands yards orchards and backsides with all and singular the appurtenances lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the occupation of him the said Jn Rossbrooke or his assigns called or known by the name or names of Fibbriks Lophams or Windmill Hill to him the said Simon my son and his heirs forever item also I give and bequeath unto the said Simon my son all that my copyhold messuage or cottage late Allins being part of Sebrights lately purchased of Isaac Payne with all and singular the appurtenances to him the said Simon his heirs and assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto the said Simon my son as aforesaid and to his heirs forever all those my freehold messuages or tenements with the yards gardens and backsides to the same belonging with all and singular the appurtenances as the same are lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the several occupations of Jn Sadd and Luke Pewter item I give and bequeath unto Jn Rossbrooke my grandchild the full and just sum of 10s of lawful english money to be paid unto him the said Jn Rossbrooke within six months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Mary the wife of Thos Allen of Much Bromley in the county of Essex the full and just sum of 10s of the like lawful money of England to be paid by my executor hereafter named within six months next after my decease item I give and bequeath unto Eliz Rossbrooke one other of my grandchildren the full and just sum of 10s to be paid by my executor within three months after my decease and as for the rest of the goods chattels debts household stuff implements of household and all other things not before bequeathed my debts and legacies and funeral charges being first paid I give devise and bequeath unto my aforesaid son Simon Rossbrooke whom I do make and ordain sole executor of this my present last will and testament revoking and annulling all other and former will or wills by me heretofore made allowing and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written signed sealed published and declared to be the last will and testament of him the said Jn Rossbrooke in our presence and we in the presence of him Sam Burton Jn Fletcher mark Jn Amye mark Jn Rossbrooke
