I Hen Chalmers of Earls Colne in the county of Essex clerk being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner following (that is to say) first I give and bequeath unto Ann Watson spinster my housekeeper all the furniture in my best chamber consisting of a bet and bedstead with blue moreen hanging three blankets mattress and quilt and window curtains mahogany dressing table and glass and mahogany chest of drawers six walnut tree chairs a mahogany night chair and wash stand and also my repeating watch and I give and bequeath unto Maurice Pugh of Chelmsford in the said county of Essex surgeon my own picture and I give and bequeath unto my sister Rachel Katherine Chalmers all my family pictures and a cornelian gold ring with the family arms and all the rest and residue and remainder of my goods and chattels debts personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what kind nature and quality soever I desire may be sold by my executors hereinafter named or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of the survivor as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and the money arising from such sale to be applied in the first place for and towards the payment of all my just debts funeral charges the charges of proving this my will and all other charges and expenses attending the execution thereof and whatever sum or sums of money shall then remain I give and bequeath unto my son Edm Alleyn Chalmers and my daughter Mary Susanna Arabella Schomberg the wife of sir Alexander Schomberg knight and their legal representatives to be equally divided between them share and share alike and my desire is that my body may be buried in the chancel of the church of Wickham Saint Pauls in the said county of Essex lastly I do nominate and appoint Robt Younge of Halsted in the said county of Essex clerk and the said Maurice Pugh executors of this my will and my mind and will is that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said executors or either of them their or either of their executors or administrators to deduct and retain to his and their own use and uses all such reasonable costs and charges for the trouble and expenses they or either of them may be put unto in the execution and performance hereof and also that they my said executors or either of them their or either of their executors or administrators shall not be answerable or accountable for any other sum of sums of money than they shall respectively and actually receive nor shall either of them be answerable or accountable for the act receipt or default of the other of them but each of them for his and their own act receipt neglect or default only and hereby revoking all former and other will and wills by me at any time heretofore made I do publish and declare this to be my last will in witness whereof I the said Hen Chalmers have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27.11.1782 Hen Chalmers signed sealed published and declared by the said Hen Chalmers the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request and the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Wm Roberts Hen Algar
