in the name of god amen I Mary Cowlin of Earls Colne in the county of Essex widow being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner following (that is to say) first I desire that I may be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Houghton wife of Jas Houghton of Halsted in the said county of Essex the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked M.C. I give and bequeath unto my son Dan Cowlin of Stanway in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £100 I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the wife of Jos Everett of Feering in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £250 and also one tablespoon marked M.C. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Judith the wife of Edw Walford of Colchester in the said county of Essex broker the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked D.M.C. I give and bequeath unto my son Jn Cowlin of Eltham in the county of Kent yeoman the sum of £100 and also half a dozen silver teaspoons marked J.C. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte the wife of Rich Nunn of Doddinghurst in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked D.M.C. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eliz the wife of Edw Gray of Blackmore in the said county of Essex yeoman the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked D.M.C. and I bequeath unto my son Chas Cowlin of Earls Colne aforesaid farmer the sum of £10 I give and bequeath unto Margt the wife of Robt Wesney of Great Wigborough in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £200 and also one silver tablespoon marked D.M.C. I give and bequeath unto my son Mark Cowlin of Halstead aforesaid farmer the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked M.C. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Frances the wife of Chas Cutts of Tolleshunt Darcy in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked M.M. I give and bequeath to my daughter Isabella the wife of Thos Kemp of Tolleshunt Darcy aforesaid farmer the sum of £250 and also one silver tablespoon marked J.E.S. I give and bequeath unto my son Jas Cowlin of Rainham in the said county of Essex farmer the sum of £100 and also half a dozen silver teaspoons marked D.M.C. and I will and direct that all the aforesaid legacies be paid within twelve months next after my decease I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary the wife of Jas Houghton the park# bed in my sleeping room and also my best looking glass I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Sarah the wife of Jos Everett my mahogany double chest of drawers in the spare room I give and bequeath all the remainder of my household furniture to be equally divided between the said Mary Houghton Sarah Everett Judith Walford Charlotte Nunn Eliz Gray Frances Cutts and Jas Cowlin share and share alike I will and direct that all my household linen and wearing apparel be equally divided amongst all and every my said daughters who shall be living at the time of my decease and subject to the payment of my just debts funeral expenses charges of probate of this my will and all expenses incident to the executorship I give and bequeath the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever to be equally divided between my said children Mary Houghton Sarah Everett Judith Walford and Mark Cowlin share and share alike I nominate and appoint the said Jas Houghton and Jos Everett executors of this my will and hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made do declare this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said Mary Cowlin the testator have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this 13.11.1809 Mary Cowlin signed sealed published and declared by the said Mary Cowlin the testatrix as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses J.G.
