whereas Jas Greenwood of Halsted in the county of Essex brasier son of Wm Greenwood late of Briset Magna in the county of Suffolk yeo deceased and Mary Dow of Coggeshall late of Halsted aforesaid daughter of Robt Dow of Coggeshall cordwinder having declared their intention of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Coggeshall and Earls Colne in the county of Essex after deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous law of god and example of his people recorded in the scriptures of truth in that case were approved by the said meeting they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parents and relations concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishment of their said intention this 7.4.1702 they the said Jas Greenwood and Mary Dow appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together for that end in their public meeting place at Coggeshall aforesaid and in a solemn manner he the said Jas Greenwood taking the said Mary Dow by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends I Jas Greenwood in the fear of the lord you are my witnesses that I do take this my friend Mary Dow to be my wife promising to be unto her a true and faithful husband until it please god to separate us by death and then and there in the said assembly the said Mary Dowe did in like manner declare as followeth I Mary Dowe in the fear of the lord as you are my witnesses I do take this my friend Jas Greenwood to be my husband until it doth please god by death to separate us and the said Jas Greenwood and Mary Dowe as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at the solemnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses hereunto have also subscribed our names the day and year above written Jas Greenwood Mary Greenwood Robt Ludgater sen Andrew Hills Jn Ludgater Xoph Hownell Thos Garritt Edw Harvey Wm King Sam Searls Edw Gardiner Joseph Bott (may be Joseph Bott) Francis Hunwick Joseph Sewell Jn Page Joseph Tapp Benj Ellis Jas Allen Thos Bridge Francis Garritt Math Middleton Jn Huthinson Thos Searles Jas Potter Ann Isaac Mary Burton Robt Dowe sen Sarah Dowe sen Wm Greenwood Robt Dowe Thos Humphry Sarah Greenwood Eliz Dowe Wm Dowe
