'Genna' carvings whether of house horns or mithan are extremely scarce and going round the Khels I noticed only four houses with horns and only three with mithans. The house with magnificent decorations which is illustrated in The Angami Nagas was destroyed in the fighting and there are now only two tiny mithan carvings on its central beams to recall its former quality. Another house which was similarly decorated belonged to Yakhele Angami. That also was destroyed and instead of doing the carvings over again in wood he painted a series of mithan heads along the wall. The right to display these heads accrued to him when he did the Zhatho genna ten or so years ago. |

In yet another house I found that Zkamoh Angami had only recently performed a last genna. A narrow space in front of half his house was newly fenced with bamboo slats. |
