Re grave figures - the Konyaks conscious object is complete fidelity to life - a Madame Tussaud's figure is the ideal - To resemble in the most photographic manner possible the dead person -

at the same time figures are always carved in conventional forms - there is thus a complete divorce between object and practice - the instinct for form and rhythm is unconscious and even asserts itself against the conscious object.
