background red lead, white and black - chiselled out - with chisel and hammer - 10 men did the carving jointly in one day - not with a dao (Hutton 212). Outline done in charcoal - Thepfuketso, Dorhiwhe and Dorkhenyu did the charcoal outline - in the village only some Nagas know carving work - these are put to do it - a single solid piece from one tree - the old gate got damaged when a nearby house caught fire - so a new gate had to be made - 8' by 5' - a big feast is necessary - get details - the new gate carved on the same pattern as the old - the old forms part of the wall. |
