text: A large log drum - to the Ao pattern - a large surging 'buffalo' head - eyes, ears, a little tongue - long horns. The 'chest' painted with black stripes and rings

text: the buffalo = a man with heads, arms and chest.
text: 2 bits of skull nailed to the face.
text: The drum shed - surrounded by sliced stakes - cf. gaping faces 'to warn away enemies' - entrance - some bamboo supporting poles marked with wavy lines. A tall new supporting board carved with a ghamti snake - 'the king of the snakes' - python? 'If you see one on a raid an excellent omen - you will get a head'. The snake carving 'to honour the drum' - done in 1947 when the shed repaired. At the entrance 4 dangling chains of bamboo rings (not basket heads) = impong (the ear pendant = 'spilt brains'.) Along the eastern side of the shed a long carved board parallel to the drum
