text: 20th May '47. To Longmatrare - 10 miles (6-30 A.M. - 1 P.M.) Had to wait for the porters from the distant villages and started later than usual with the result that we were not in till after midday and got the full force of the sun. Some of the porters were laid flat out, and the Angamis also suffered severely.
text: Heard Khuvukhu - Longmatrare land case. Khuvukhu is the typical old fashioned Sema Chief, a looter and land grabber of the first order.
text: The rice round here is dying from the drought. The harvest last year was not good and unless there is rain during May, there will be a famine.
