31/1. Report that Longmein was finished has proved wrong. We were a bit surprised at the report as from Wakching we could see fires going up from the fields. If the village had been burnt, there would have been no field work that day. On the other hand, the jungle might have been fired and Longmien is the next village from Choknyu. It now seems that the burning village which Chinlong saw was Nyanching, a settlement of 10 houses from Choknyu, which the raiders missed the first time. So they returned, killed all the people and burnt it. No further news - we are beginning to think that they have perhaps gone back - Shengha is the next on the list and I am told that Shengha was informed that they would finish it - at the same time as Choknyu was told. |
