Do you remember Chingkap, the Phomching gaonbura who was so drunk and troublesome that evening at Susu that I had to box his ears? He has gone the way of all flesh. Yacham got his head about a week ago. He led a party of nine and got four Yacham heads out of a party of six. They had their retreat cut off and Chingkap was killed. Hutton and I expect to be away all next month in the Phom and Konyak country. We first punish Yungya for taking a Kamahu head on our side of the Dikhu and then cruise about in the unknown. It will be very interesting and probably an awful sweat. That crowd are full of original sin and don't in the least want to see us. It will be my pleasant task to extract coolies from the villages every day. |

I have not yet heard whether King, Hamilton have wangled your specimens through the customs. I told them what I thought of the Collector of Customs for being so officious. Another box of stuff which I have collected since will go off in a day of two. If I can get any things this trip I will. |

Getting very warm again - as warm as it was when you came. We seem to have had a very short cold weather, and I have never seen the snow mountains since you left. People here often tell me to be sure to send their salaams when I write. We are all very fit. |
