text: 3. Totok - Longmein
text: 22nd Dec. Totok surprised a party from Longmein and 2 other villages fishing - Totok said in Totok waters - the 3 Totok villages hurriedly mobilised - a great altercation ensued - finally the Totok party set to work and killed 37 - losing 3 themselves. Both Totok and Longmein are only 2 miles from the border of administered territory - and only 6 miles from Wakching. I had announced a visit to these villages from 20th Dec. but had to postpone it. Again perhaps a feeling that now or never. Longmein took 60 heads from Totok 40 years ago. Longmein had also been getting very uppish and in 1946 had set fire to some Totok field houses - but even more important - rumours in Wakching area that the British had gone and no Government.
