suggestion that Wakching area to be included in Tirap F.T. |

....Your letter conjured up many pictures. I believe I can still remember every curve of that Wokha road. I'm glad Lungsa have chosen a puthi at last. A vilely litigious village, but stoutly conservative. |

By the time you get this you'll know that expeditions are off for the moment. We'll try warnings first, till Burma are ready (if ever). Then, if necessary, there can be a show, or shows, in the autumn. Adams is expected to take over here about March 10th, I think. So you'll be starting back for Mokokchung again almost as soon as you reach Kohima. |

As you know the Wakching area is to be included in Tirap F.T. How long the formalities will take I don't know, but I'd recommend you to do a very early tour there, as it might be your last chance. The art is magnificent. Be your time in the Naga Hills long or short I'm sure you'll feel it has been worth while. What we shall do for officers when everyone goes I simply cannot imagine. The whole thing is haywire. England ought to have relaxed control pari parsu with the progress made towards a new constitution; in fact control is rapidly disappearing, and I can see no progress politically ..... |
