letters from Mills to Archer about Naga independence |
text: |
Adams told me this morning about the draft Naga agreement, and I saw it in a copy of the Naga paper Pawsey sent me. Khonoma, who want a Khonoma Raj, don't like it, and there is a party of them here trying to wreck it. On the whole its very good, and the Nagas have got far more than I ever thought they would. There ought to have been a free trade clause, to stop Congress putting a prohibitive duty on Naga timber, potatoes etc. and a clause giving the N.N.C. the right to have a say in lorry permits on the Dimapur road. |

I hand over to Adams in 10 days, as far as I know. He is staying 'provisionally' for 6 months, provided he can take a job at Home if he is offered one ... Philip (Mills) |
