text: 'Formerly took heads and all our harvests were good. Nowadays Govt. has stopped us bringing heads and all our harvests are bad. We do not get enough to eat. We have asked Govt. to let us bring heads once again so that our crops may flourish!' Mauwang of Longkhai.
text: When the rice is sprouting and when in the ear, no figures are carved no trees or branches are cut - until the harvest - in middle not genna - if a man dies during this period, no figures are put up -
text: Chingai and Mauwang deny that there is any idea that the soul enters the figure - or that it affects the crops - they do not think of it that way -
text: In Kongon there is the custom of keeping the skull of a man in the house until the Spring Festival - ie. bringing the skull back when the flesh has rotted - then feeding the skull each day - at the festival place it in the graveyard.
