text: Christoph had owed his admission to the Naga Hills to his friend, J.P.Mills, himself a senior member of the I.C.S. and author of the classic monographs The Lhota Nagas (1922), The Ao Nagas (1926) and The Rengma Nagas (1937). Philip, whom Bill and I were later to get to know so well, was a Wykhamist, a devout Anglican and a linguist of no mean calibre. Aghast at the flagrant mistranslation into Ao of the New Testament by members of the American Baptist Mission, he had deployed his knowledge of Greek and his equally great knowledge of Ao to expose their biased mistakes!
