text: | At one end of the village was a large head-tree, but there were no bamboos with heads leaning in it now - only a luck-stone lay underneath. These luck-stones are smooth water-worn stones on which the well-being of the village depends. At Sanis the head- tree had been blown down. The villagers had (42) planted a new one in its place but the cattle had eaten it and they were now waiting until December to make the new morungs and to plant another. |
