text: Every day we hear fresh stories of the war. 'This is the place,' we are told 'where a jeep crashed burning down the hillside and the sahibs jumped out and said, "O.K. chaps"'. 'Here a sahib crept up to our village to collect stores and just as he neared it the Jap machine guns opened fire, but he got through.' 'Here a bomb fell and the village was destroyed.' 'It was not the firing we minded, but the bombing,' said one Naga, 'You would be sitting eating your rice, then suddenly down would come a bomb. It was the bombs and the aeroplanes we had never seen before. What could you do against a bomb?'
