text: The last three days have drifted by engulfed in fever. (81) First I went down with it. I lay in the gloomy bungalow at Baimho with its sombre pinewood walls and ceiling, gazing out at the unadministered territory, the 'forbidden land'. It was bounded by the Tizu river which flowed along in sluggish curves between the great hills. Little patches of vivid rice hugged the bends, but on the far side the forested hills swept up grand and magnificent.
