text: Early this morning the air was clear and a vast landscape spread itself out around the camp. But a little later great funnel-shaped clouds of mist began to soar up from the valleys until the hilltop was left hanging in the air. It made me think of Arthur Waley's translation of an utah.

text: With its trailing mists and fantastic hills the Naga country must be not unlike the wilder landscapes of Japan.
text: This morning we walked to Jhakpa, a mixed Chang and Ao village. There was a strong smell of singeing in the village for a large pig had been killed and its bristles were being burnt off on a fire.
